Power and Scales called up to U18 Squad

Congratulations to Simon Power and Liam Scales who have been called up for the Ireland U18 squad which travels to Sweden to face the hosts and Hungary in a three team tournament this week.FAI

Both players have been in brilliant form so far this season for our U19 side, and it hasn't went unnoticed by the newly appointed, Ireland U19 manager, Tom Mohan as he begins his preparations for the UEFA U19 Championship Qualifying Round in October. Speaking ahead of the games to www.fai.ie Tom was looking forward to the tournament and the chance for players to stake their claim for a place in his squad for the U19's qualifiers in October.

"These games come at the end of this particular season for the U18s and there are some players missing but it's a great opportunity for the lads that are in," said Mohan.

"We'll have two competitive games and another opportunity for me to see and work with more players and help us prepare for next season's competitive games.

"We've a number of home-based players in the squad which is testament to how they are progressing at their clubs. Some have already progressed to first team football and it's pleasing to see their progression.

"There is competition for places at this age-group. The players that are in can stake a claim to show that they can play a part next season."

Ireland face Hungary in the opening game on Thursday before facing the hosts Sweden on Saturday.
