U19s Report: UCD 5 - 0 Wexford

Having bounced back from defeats against Shamrock Rovers and Cork City with three wins on the bounce, Ian Ryan's side enterred this game looking to continue their good form and keep the pressure on the leaders at the top of the table. Two goals from top scorer Gareth Coughlan, and goals from Aaron Robinson, Simon Power, and Liam Scales handed UCD a comfortable win.SSE-Airtricity-League

Just three minutes into the game Aaron Robinson opened the scoring with a bang. After some good play down the left wing by Simon Power, Aaron let fly from 25 yards and found the top corner to leave Wexford stunned and the keeper with no chance.

It wasn't all as one way traffic as the scoreline suggests, and Wexford almost pulled level just minutes after we took the lead, as their winger broke down the left before a ball over the top found their striker clean through and his half volley looked destined to find the net only for a brilliant reflex save from Conor Kearns to tip it around the post. Conor then relieved his defence once more from the resultant corner with a brilliant take under pressure.

Gareth Coughlan looked to have extended our lead after he rose highest to get on the end of Darragh McConville's brilliant cross, only for his header to just creep over the bar.

Wexford were struggling to deal with UCD's pace out wide and were cut open once again when left back Sean Byrne broke down the wing and playing a great cross across the six yard box only for the Wexford defender to put it out for a corner ahead of Gareth Coughlan.

UCD's chances were limited for the remainder of the half, with Ian Ryan's side limited to shots from outside the box, with Conor Crowley and Aaron Robinson going close. However, just as the referee looked to blow the half time whistle, UCD's attacking pace showed as Simon Power picked up the ball on the half way line, beat his man, broke through and finished to extend our lead.

After half time, Simon Power turned creator once more after he picked out Conor Crowley on the edge of the box, and after a good save by Adam Dunbar in the Wexford net Gareth Coughlan grabbed his first of the game with a clinical poachers finish on the rebound.

It then became two in two minutes for Gareth Coughlan as he popped up to score after more brilliant work on the right wing by Simon Power.

It wasn't long before Ian Ryan's side extended their lead further when Conor Crowley's corner picked out Liam Scales only for his header to come back off the bar, however Andy O'Reilly reacted quickest to head home to rebound.

A raft of changes from both sides saw the game die out a little, however Aaron Robinson and Conor Crowley were unlucky not to add to their tallies and would have done so only for some brilliant goalkeeping by Alan Dunbar.
