Match Report: UCD 3 - 3 Killester

In a weekend where all the teams around picked up points it was important not to lose this game. Caolan Cullen grabbed the headlines with two goals in a cracking game including an injury time equaliser to seal a vital point.LSL-Logo

After some good early pressure by us, it was Killester to strike first. Killester headed clear our corner and broke extremely quick before the ball was slid through the defence to find their centre forward unmarked to slide the ball past Sean Coffey to give him no chance.

We quickly put the disappointment of going behind, behind us and looked to get an equaliser. Timmy Molloy broke down the left wing before cutting inside only for his shot to just go the wrong side of the post. Keeping the pressure up, Kieran Bowers broke down the left wing and his cross picked out Joe Keohane who had time and space to turn only for his shot to just miss the bottom corner.

Determined to get back into the game, this time it was Joe Keohane's turn down the left wing and after some good link up play with Cormac Suen, Cormac's shot was straight at the keeper.

After a good period of pressure from us, Killester came back into the game as they went in search of a second goal. After a good turn at the edge of the box their striker shot for the bottom corner but it was comfortably saved by Sean Coffey.

Killester looked to have extended their lead as they broke once more through middle, only to be denied by a great save from Sean Coffey who tipped it round the post. From the resultant corner, Sean Coffey pulled off another brilliant save from a free header.

This seemed to spark us back into life, and shortly after, Timmy Molloy chipped a free kick over the top to find Caolan Cullen unmarked and he blasted it into the far corner from 12 yards.

In what was to become a pattern in the game, just moments after we grabbed the equaliser, Killester retook the lead with a goal on the break.

Determined to extend their Lead before half time, and it was former UCD player Mick Kelly who looked to turn creator, as his ball down the right win picked out their winger and he beat Kieran Bowers, however Sean Coffey was equal to the shot to tip it over.

Diarmuid McNally's half time team talk looked to have spurred UCD back into life as just dafter half time Cormac Suen made a driving run from midfield but his shot from the edge of the area was well blocked by Killester.

It was Colm Feeney's turn to turn creator as he broke down the right wing before whipping in a great cross towards Conor Cannon at the back post however he couldn't get enough on it on them stretch.

The equaliser came from a moment of magic from Conor Cannon after he cut inside from the right wing across the defence before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the bottom corner from 25 yards.

It was to be a sense of deja-vu however as our lead was short lived once more. Sean Coffey made a brilliant save from a flick on from a free kick however it was Killester who reacted quickest to drill the ball home to retake the lead.

Deep into injury time and with full time approaching a Timmy Molloy corner was half cleared with the ball falling to the unmarked Caolan Cullen who fired the ball into the net to secure what could be a vital point for us as we look to secure our position in the Leinster Senior Leagues top division.
