The Students were frustrated in the original cup tie, as they were held to 0-0 draw in Ringsend Park earlier on in the month.

However, it was clear from the get go that this one wouldn’t be scoreless and Tim Molloy proved that , as he gave The Students the lead after just seven minutes.IMG 4377

Michael Whelan doubled The Students lead just five minutes later, as he latched onto a loose ball, before slotting the ball under Pat’s Net minder, Darren McGarry and into the back of the net.

St Pat’s CY managed to see out the first half at 2-0 and the score line remained the same until the 62nd minute, as Tim Molloy’s cross picked out Fran Moran who’s header was parried by McGarry, however the ball fell to Marc Whelan who scuffed the ball over the goal-line to make it 3-0 and effectively wrap the game up.

The crowd and staff alike were treated to a surprise on 66 minutes as Student’s full-back, Brian O’Reilly headed home a Michael Whelan cross to put The Students four up.

The final of this year’s FAI Intermediate Cup will take place in Turner’s Cross this year and it was Cork native, Conor Cannon who rounded off the scoring with a neat finish in the 76th minute.

The Students will face Cup holders, Avondale United in The FAI Intermediate Cup Final on the 10th of May at Turners cross, however there is just the small matter of securing safety in league matters before that and The Students will continue on that front on Wednesday night when they travel to Wayside Celtic.
