Leinster Senior League Club of the Year 2011 - UCD AFC

UCD AFC's Leinster Senior League sides have been named the Club of the Year.web4

Starting off the 2010/11 season with 3 Leinster Senior League teams, it was always going to be a big ask to ensure all three were in the running for major honours come close of business. With the hard work, dedication and no small amount of skill UCD's players and management ended up with 2 league titles and one cup.

web1UCD AFC's Sunday side competed in the Senior 1A Division of Intermediate football and having secured promotion to this division the previous season set about continuing their climb up the divisions. By the final game of the season they had already secured the title with their brand of exciting attacking football too much for their opponents to handle.

The same team took on Templeogue United in the Final of the Gilligan Cup and a 2-1 victory ensured they secured a Leinster Senior League Double.

UCD AFC's Fresher side competed in the Saturday Premier 1 Division and swept all before them aside as they won the league with over 20 points to spare and 100 league goals in the bag.web2

Club Captain Niall Daly and flying winger Marc Whelan were on hand to pick up the 3 trophies and the award for being the best club in the Leinster Senior League. With the trophy haul almost too much to handle as the awards went on they enlisted the help of Republic of Ireland legend Ronnie Whelan to help!
