5 Of The Best For LSL Sun Senior 1

UCD LSL Sunday Senior 1 beat Belgrove/Home Farm 5-0 on Sunday

LSL_Sun

UCD made it back to back wins in Senior 1 Sunday with an emphatic win against Belgrove/Home Farm in Whitehall on Sunday afternoon.

UCD were out of the blocks quickest and within 15 minutes had found themselves 1-0 ahead as Niall Daly latched on to a Stiofan Sexton through ball and finished well past the advancing ‘keeper to open his account for the season.

Daly was again involved in the second goal, breaking down the left wing before cutting inside and laying the ball off for Sexton to score his first of  the day on the half hour mark.

It was nearly 3-0 on the stroke of half time as Michael Whelan’s angled shot was inches from the bottom corner.

The home side were having their fair share of possession as Dillon, O’Brollochain, Wright, O’Reilly, Timmons and Moran broke down everything that was thrown at them, limiting UCD’s front two were causing significant problems for the Belgrove/Home Farm defence and 10 minutes into the second half, Sexton latched on to Daly’s flick on and finished neatly to double his tally for the day.

UCD’s strength in depth was evident as the predatory duo of Mike Arnold and Stephen Doyle were called on from the bench with 20 minutes to play. Arnold made an immediate impact as he skilfully turned his marker in the box before squaring the ball for Sexton to tap-in and complete his hat-trick.

In the dying minutes, a long range effort from the lively Paul Curtin was parried into Sextons’ path and there was only ever going to be one result on a day like today, as the clinical Sexton made no mistake from 6 yards out to take his tally to four for the day.

So an emphatic 5-0 win for the Students, a first clean sheet of the season for the commanding Sean Coffey and a first match ball of the season for man of the match Stiofan Sexton means the 2012/13 campaign is now well and truly motoring.
