Celbridge Too Far For Students

UCD AFC's Saturday Major 1A team suffered their first defeat of the season following a disappointing performance, going down 4-0 away from home. UCD have struggled in the opening periods of matches in recent weeks and have twice come back strongly following the concession of early goals but it was not to be on Saturday as Celbridge Town stuck to their direct style of football and got the rewards.

A long ball early in the first half caused confusion in the UCD defence as a deft flick allowed the Celbridge Town striker a sight of goal and he finished expertly. UCD responded by dominating possession and imposing their passing football on the home team. Opportunities were few and far between as play regularly broke down in the final third.

UCD started the second half in the same vein and looked to be gaining momentum when from the edge of the box the Celbridge Town captain struck an unstoppable shot into the far top corner. UCD tried to get back into the game but the goal had knocked confidence and two more unanswered goals for the home side and UCD experienced their first defeat of the season.
