Ringsend Rovers 1-0 UCD AFC
Irishtown Park, Sat 20th Oct
LSL Saturday Major 1
UCD faced a tough challenge on Saturday in the form of Ringsend Rovers.
UCD started on the back foot as they could not win anything in the air as their counterparts were dominating in that part of the game. Hanley, Kelly and McErlane battled valiantly against their opponents and slowly worked themselves into the game. Keogh and Naughton were linking up well at the back to create attacks from the back but neither side could muster up any meaningful attacks.
Suen up front was feeding off scraps but when he did get the ball to feet he turned and attacked the Rover's defence and caused the home defence a problem or two.
The start of the second half was much like how the first half finished with both teams struggling to create any decent opportunity.
There was a real shout of a penalty for Rovers as their centre mid broke through the middle and was taken down but UCD escaped.
The only goal of the game came with five minutes to go as UCD took a corner and Rovers counter attacked in force and swept a high ball to their right midfielder who squared for the number 9 to slot in and hand UCD their defeat in a row.
UCD have deserved more from the previous three games but this highlights the strength of the league that newly promoted side are now in.
UCD Team: Barber, Hickey, C. O'Brolchain, Keogh, Naughton, Ronan? Don't know his last name unfortunately, Murray (Lehane), McErlane, Kelly, Hanley, Suen (B. O'Brolchain)
