UCD kick off Harding Cup action on Friday morning.

UL v UCD

UCD CREST2

Just over a month into the new year and UCD kick off competitive intervarsities action as the 2013 Harding Cup takes place in the University of Coleraine, Ulster.

UCD play against the University of Limerick in the quarter finals on Friday morning at 11am.

In the other quarter final fixtures, DCU play NUI Galway, NUI Maynooth play the host team University of Ulster Coleraine while Trinity College Dublin play University College Cork.

If UCD make it to the semi finals they will play against either DCU or NUI Galway on Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm.

The team will be managed by Tony Sheridan with Conor McCarthy as assistant.

Sherro is looking forward to the tournament:

“We are in good form and looking forward to what should be an interesting tournament. UCD have a good history in the Harding Cup and is something we hope to continue this year.”

“We have a good squad full of players from our Leinster Senior league team as well as our U19 team, both those teams have been towards the top of their respective leagues this season so hopefully we can build on this winning mentality.”

While captain Declan Keaney also gave his thoughts:

“We can’t wait to get up there and get going, UCD have done really well in the Harding Cup in the past and we hope to be no different. A win on Friday and we will be just a match away from the final but it will be a difficult opening game against Limerick and we are thinking no further than the ¼ finals at the moment.”
