Mullins Delaney Deekes ONeillA superb festival of Student football was brought to an end on Friday evening when NUI Maynooth celebrated their first Collingwood Cup victory with a deserved win over NUI Galway in the UCD Bowl. The Setanta Sports cameras were treated to a feast of football that was worthy of any stage and a credit to both Universitities.

That feast was preceded by an equally impressive feed as the Collingwood Cup 2014 dinner took place in the Astra Hall in UCD. An eclectic collection of past Collingwood Cup players packed into the hall to celebrate the 100 years of University football's greatest competition. From all corners of the country former players came to reminisce about days gone by but also look forward to the 2014 final.

Special guest for the afternoon was Martin O'Neill who regaled the crowd with tales of his time in QUB (admittedly only a couple of weeks long), before chatting about his time with Nottingham Forest and the glories that came with that era. Ireland's national coach gave a fascinating insight into his journey through management and ultimately his arrival as the Republic's supremo.

University of Ulster Coleraine's Dr. Tom Stark was presented with the inaugural Tony O'Neill Services to University Soccer award. An emotional Dr. StarkDr stark accepted the award paying tribute to his now departed friend who's name adorns the trophy.

It was a fitting way to bring the curtain down on a fantastic week. UCD AFC would like to thank the Collingwood Cup organising committee, UCD Sport and all the vounteers that helped out during the week. Special mention must go to Georgina Dwyer and Suzanne Bailey for their incredible work in the run up to the tournament and during the tournament itself.

On behalf of everyone at UCD AFC, congratulations to NUI Maynooth on a fantastic tournament.
