Collingwood Cup 2012: Day 4

Mick Leahy's final Collingwood Cup Diary entry.Cover

With the celebrations taking centre stage, Mick's Diary took a back seat for a couple of hours. But we have it here now and as the celebrations began and articulate was pushed to the memory banks it was time for Mick close another memorable week, as only he can. Rumours that he is has taken to writing his own private diary in the hope of one day being published have not yet been confirmer, but in the meantime here is the last installment from your Collingwood Cup winning captain.

Day 4:

Since Langtry had gone home for the night due to an exam and his modelling commitments, my new roommate for the night was Stephen Doyle, our right-winger.

Breakfast went off this morning without much controversy. The only incident was Danny Fallon’s confrontation with another hotel guest. The Fallon stood his ground and made sure that the man in question was forced to find somewhere else to sit.

On a personal note, it was great to have some support from my extended family down in Limerick this week, with my cousin Kelvin, uncles and grandparents all making it out to support myself and the team.

The match, like many finals, was a scrappy affair which we should have finished off long before the final whistle. Despite some missed chances, we got the desired result and will bring the Collingwood Cup back to Belfield for a 3rd time in 4 years.

The Danny Fallon MOM went to Cormac, for an ‘autocratic’ performance.

Looking forward to celebrating on the bus home now and getting back to our traditional trophy-winning location of the Stillorgan Park Hotel for a few quiet drinks on Sherro! Ross King has promised us a song on the bus home now so it remains to be seen whether he will step up to the plate!

Had a great week down here with the lads. Unfortunately the trip is almost over now and it’s back to studying and preparing for the big league kick-off next week. The matches never stop coming!
