Collingwood Cup 2012: Day 3

Mick Leahy continues his Collingwood Cup Diary.Cover

On the eve of the Final, UCCD AFC's Captain, Mick Leahy, brings us behind the blood, sweat and tears.

Day 3:

Called up to DOC and Mark McGinley’s room before bed last night for a chat…only took DOC about 45 mins to finish his phone-call with his gf and get involved in the conversation!

Baz and Danny passed on breakfast-in-bed this morning, joining the lads instead for their meal at 9.30am. Niall Wright was missing, having been up sick all night and missed today’s game as a result. Hopefully he’ll be back fit for the final tomorrow. Niall, an aspiring young actor, faces the enviable decision tomorrow night of either (hopefully) celebrating with the rest of the lads or attending the premiere party of his new BBC drama series ‘6 Degrees’ up in Belfast.

In the game today, we produced another good team performance in wet and windy conditions. Doyler, Cormac, Niall H and Brian McD slotted in for their first starts of the tournament and performed well. Comfortably in the lead by ht, Maccer decided to utilise the bench and rest some players for tomorrow’s final. Eventually we ran out 6-0 winners and awaited the result from the other semi-final. Surprisingly, Mary Immaculate from Limerick overcame UCC on penalties to make it to their first final in recent years (maybe ever?).

Danny Fallon made his debut in this year’s competition today off the bench but decided not to give himself the daily ‘Danny Fallon MOM’, instead awarding it to Canadian hat-trick hero Mike Arnold, for an ‘incisive’ performance against the Surgeons.

Unfortunately my roommate Mark Langtry had to return home again today after the match for another exam. Once again it means we won’t be able to have out nightly press-ups competition before bed! Currently it’s 2-1 to me over the week. Rumours are circulating that Mark really returned home to appear in the annual UCD Fashion Show, taking place on campus tonight.

We’re all looking forward to tomorrow’s final, despite some tired bodies, and are confident of securing our 3rd Collingwood Cup in 4 years and my 2nd as captain.
