UCD AFC 3-2 Colaiste Ide

UCD AFC beat Colaiste Ide in the latest round of the Colleges and Universities League.Ide

UCD bounced back from last week's defeat to DCU with a 3-2 win over Colaiste Ide in Belfield. Goals from Samir Belhout, Mark Langtry and Danny Fallon gave the UCD Students a deserved victory in a highly competitive game.

UCD started the better of the two teams and went ahead after 10 minutes. Mick Leahy rose highest to power the ball goalwards and Samir Belhout got a flick to direct it past the keeper and into the back of the net.

UCD continued to push forward and began to gain control of the midfield with Paul Corry and Robbie Creevy constantly looking to break forward. Corry in particular had his shooting boots on as he stung the palms of the keeper on more than one occasion. Colaiste Ide tried to exert some pressure of their own but their forays forward were easily dealt with by McGroarty and his defence.

The second half had only just began when Ide won a free kick on the edge of the UCD box and the resulting free kick was smashed into the top corner, leaving McGroarty with no chance.

That surprising setback rocked UCD back into their stride and straight from kick off UCD retained possession, with Tom O'Halloran dribbling past a number of defenders, before working the ball into the box where Mark Langtry was waiting to direct it into the net to restore UCD's lead.

UCD continued to dominate the game and built up a strong lead when Danny Fallon cut in from the right hand side and finished easily past the keeper. Neat play between Samir Belhout and Danny Fallon lead to Fallon breaking into the box and killing the game.

Ide looked like they were about to work their way back into the game and cause a late scare when Mick Leahy played the ball to Danny Fallon who was clattered by the Colaiste Ide left back but the referee waved play on and a deflected shot later UCD were in for a nervy finale.

UCD held out and could have increased their lead but Mark Langtry some how managed to pass up an opportunity that looked easier to score.
