STUDENTS TRAVEL INTO THE WEST IN SEARCH OF REVENGE

The UCD Harding Cup team of 2009 suffered defeat in the first round of the competition when they were surprisingly beaten by NUI Galway. UCD did not have to wait long to avenge their defeat. This years Harding Cup will be played in Galway with UCD being drawn against their conquerors NUI Galway in the first round. NUI Galway won the very first Harding Cup and 40 years later the first two winners of the competition will do battle. To ensure the best chance of winning the tournament UCD have entered their strongest squad possible with the inclusion of first team goalkeeper Ger Barron who is looking forward to carrying on his fine form from the League of Ireland First Division campaign where he kept 17 clean sheets throughout the season. UCD will combine this solid base with a mixture of League of Ireland squad members and Leinster Senior League players to form a squad determined to do the college proud. UCD have won the competition on 13 occasions but have suffered a two year drought in this competition. UCD have won the competition 3 times in a row on 2 separate occasions throughout their long association with the competition. The winner of this competition will have displayed skill, determination and a huge helping of heart to stand triumphant on Sunday afternoon holding the Harding Cup aloft.
