Special Olympics Join The Team

UCD AFC and Special Olympics (Eastern Region) have joined forces for the 2011 Season. IMG_5331

UCD AFC Captain Michael Leahy and his charges welcomed Special Olympics Eastern Region to UCD on Sun 13th February 2011. The lads were on hand to cheer on the Eastern Region Mens Football Five a side League teams. 


IMG_5325Special Olympics Ireland (Eastern Region) is UCD AFC's chosen charity for 2011. Team Ireland will be cheered off from the UCD Bowl in May as they head off to Athens, Greece to compete in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games on the 25th June-4th July 2011. A total of 125 athletes, 48 volunteers which consists of a management team & coaches who are preparing the team for competition and family members will be travelling to Athens.


Dundrum Special Olympics Club and Stillorgan Eagles Special Olympics Club will also be special guests at the Bowl throughout the Season.

Special Olympics is dependent on the hard work and dedication of its large band of volunteers. UCD AFC is delighted to support their call for more volunteers to become involved with such an incredible organisation.IMG_5337

  • Why not help out at Special Olympics Annual Collection Day on Fri 15th April 2011. Shake a bucket for Special Olympics Ireland! We'll be on every street corner across Ireland from 7am-7pm so if you're free for an hour please contact us on the details above.
  • Join a club! We have 82 affiliated Special Olympics Clubs in the Eastern Region (Greater Dublin, North Wicklow and East Kildare) across 14 different sports. If you'd like to help with one of our great clubs please contact us on the details above.
  • Qualified referees and coaches are always required to help run Special Olympics football leagues.
