Week 1 of the 2012 UCD AFC Summer Soccer Camp

The Summer Soccer Camp has returned for another 8 week run.web3

Monday saw the return of lively souls to the Belfield Sports fields as UCD AFC's Summer Soccer Camp opened its doors for another 8 week run. With the majority of the UCD Students having left UCD's campus at the end of May it has been a very quiet time around the green fields. Nearly 50 boys and girls streamed through the doors on Monday morning to take part in one of the best Summer Soccer camps in South Dublin. With expert coaching from League of Ireland players and coaches there is no better place to be to learn the skills to improve your game but most importantly to have incredible fun doing so.

web2Ger Barron and Paul O'Conor adorn the front of the UCD AFC Summer Camp brochure and they were as excited as the kids as the first day drew close. "It is an incredible camp, it just gets better and better every year. This is my 4th year doing it and there is no better place to be if you are a kid looking to have some fun and play some football", says Ger Barron, UCD AFC's first team goalkeeper. With a steady stream of football from 10am to 3pm the boys and girls have been kept entertained with drills, skills and fun games. The most popular by far is "Killer Cone".

Paul O'Conor is no different, there is nothing he loves more than taking part,"Everyone loves it, I loveweb1 getting involved but I never win. The kids always make a truce with me but then turn on me when I least expect it." Both O'Conor and Barron have been coaching on the UCD AFC camps for 4 years and have as many good memories of the camps as the kids. Barron reckons it is the best place to be during the summer, "The facilities here mean there is never a day cancelled, we can go indoors if needs be, and the professional attitude of Denise and Diarmuid makes it such a safe place to be".

Paul puts it extremely simply, "I am yet to meet someone that hasn't enjoyed themselves or learnt something"
