UCD AFC were beaten 2-1 by Cork City in the latest Under 19 National League game.
UCD AFC tasted defeat for the first time in the Under 19 Dr Tony O'Neill National League. Two first half goals from the home side left UCD with it all to do in the second half. Luke Fitzgibbon managed to pull one back for the Students but it was too little too late.
UCD began the game in sloppy fashion, struggling to get into any kind of passing rhythm and allowing Cork to gain a foothold in the game early on. Cork's dominance of the early stages of the half was pressed home when they broke through the centre of UCD's defence and Niall Corbett was left with no chance in the UCD net.
Before the first half was done UCD found themselves 2-0 down. It was no more than Cork City deserved as they had controlled the game in since their opening goal and when a smart ball into the box from the right hand side was expertly controlled in the box it looked as though UCD would concede again. That turned out to be the case and with the second half to come UCD were trailing the home side by two goals.
UCD AFC began the second half brightly and made a concerted effort to put Cork under much more pressure. As the half wore on Cork looked to have the measure of their opponents even withstanding this new pressure. With ten minutes left in the game Luke Fitzgibbon slammed home a concsolation for the Students.
UCD now take on Bray Wanderers at home on Sunday looking to bounce straight back from this set back.
