UCD vs Dundalk FC

dundalkDundalk come to the Bowl on Saturday as table toppers, a position they previously acquired when beating UCD 3-0 back in April. In fact, it’s extraordinary, in this most open of Airtricity Premier championships, how many of the Students opponents have been contesting top spot when the fixture list has decreed UCD as their opposition. UCD have thwarted Pats and Sporting’s bids and pegged back Shamrock Rovers and Bohs and manager Martin Russell is looking forward to another crack at Dundalk.

“They were impressive at Oriel Park,” admits Martin, “But we can do better and, with the playing surface at the Bowl improving all the time, I predict a closer call on Saturday.”

Martin is full of praise for his team’s commitment in Galway last week where the Students came from behind to take a point on a poor pitch that certainly didn’t suit the way the manager likes his teams to play.

Andy Boyle is still with the Irish U19 squad in Ukraine but otherwise Russell has a full squad available for selection. Midfielder Greg Bolger is with the U23 side due to play England in Waterford on Wednesday but is scheduled to join up with his club colleagues afterwards.
