UCD v SHAMROCK ROVERS

placeholderShamrock Rovers return to the Bowl in search of Airtricty Premier League points just four days after securing a 1-0 victory over UCD in the EA Sports Cup 2nd round tie. The speedy return makes Friday's game an enticing prospect. In the Cup Hoops fielded nine of the team that beat Galway 2-0 the previous Friday and, after Gary Twigg scored an early goal, the signs were ominous for Russell's team of youngsters, only three of whom started in Bray. 'We treated this competition as a chance to give our fringe players an opportunity to impress. And they did. It's all part of the learning process and they will have learned a lot from facing some of the best players in the domestic game in a competitive match.' With a decline in the injury list that has handicapped Shamrock Rovers since the beginning of the season, the Hoops have plenty of big names to choose from for Friday's Airtricity Premier League match at the Bowl but are unlikely to make many changes from their EAS Cup team. UCD, on the other hand, will hope to select from their full squad with 'senior' players rested after running up a six goal tally against Bray anxious to return in what should prove to be an interesting encounter. Ciaran Kilduff is available after returning for the second half on Monday night and keeper Billy Brennan, who has a groin strain, is expected to be fit.
