Sheridan heading to World Games

Congratulations to Gavin Sheridan who has been selected to represent Ireland at the upcoming World University Games in Naples, Italy. WUG - Ireland Squad

Ireland have been drawn in Group A for the tournament along with the Republic of Korea and Uruguay, with their opening fixture coming on Friday night against the Korean's before facing Uruguay on Sunday evening.

Sheridan signed for our Leinster Senior League side in 2015 having taken up a sports scholarship to complete the Diploma in Sports Management. Since joining, he has went from strength to strength both on and off the field, and after completing the diploma he has progressed to the Sports Management Degree course and he is now an Ad Astra Elite Scholar. After some great seasons with our Leinster Senior League side, where he was a key part of our Sunday team, he was promoted to our League of Ireland side last summer.

He has also played a huge part of our recent success at College's and Universities level. He was part of our class of 2016 which won the Harding Cup along with Gary O'Neill, Jason Collins, Dan Tobin, Jason McClelland, Daire O'Connor and Georgie Kelly, and has also won two CUFL titles and two Collingwood Cup titles!

Speaking ahead of the tournament, Irish manager Greg Yelverton  said "The Universiade presents a unique challenge for all athletes participating to compete against their academic peers across the globe. Representing your country is the biggest honour you can achieve as an athlete. My staff and I have constantly emphasised this message to the players in our preparations. The Universiade is an incredible challenge, both mentally and physically, for Third Level players to compete against countries across the world and the experience they will get from the tournament will have influence on their developing careers as footballers."
