Match Preview: UCD AFC vs Shelbourne

Kick-off: 7.45pm, Tolka Park, Friday 5th AugustSSE-Airtricity-League

After last week's brilliant 5-1 victory over Athlone Town, we return to SSE Airtricity First Division action on Friday night as we face a Dublin Derby against playoff chasing rivals Shelbourne FC. Collie O'Neill's side were in great form last week against Athlone creating a lot of chances and grabbing five goals with five different scorers as Jack Watson, Greg Sloggett, Maxi Kouogun, Kieran Marty Waters and Jason Byrne all got on the scoresheet. It was also Jason Byrne's goal was also his first for the club since joining at the start of the season, and he will be looking to push on now over the coming weeks
now that he is back to full fitness after the calf injury which ruled him out of the start of the season.

This will be the third time we have faced Shelbourne this season, and we have emerged with the three points on both occasions, winning 2-1 in Tolka Park and 2-0 in the UCD Bowl. Collie O'Neill knows his side will face another tough encounter on Friday and is expecting Owen Heary to have his side up for the game and determined to pull three points back in the playoff race.

"Friday will be another difficult game for us against a rejuvenated Shelbourne side. Owen Heary will have them well set up and they will be difficult to break down, and they will also be looking to close the gap in the playoff race."

Collie has a number of injuries to contend with for Friday's game, with Tomas Boyle ruled out as he continues his recovery from the neck injury which he picked up in our game against Swindon Town. Brian Shortall will also miss out with the hamstring injury which has kept him out for a number of weeks now. The game also comes too soon for Adam Harney (groin) and Samir Belhout (groin). We have no suspensions for the game.

The Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup third round draw also took place in the last week and has seen us drawn against Janesboro FC of Limerick. Janesboro are one of the biggest sides in Junior football, and qualified for the competition by reaching the FAI Junior Cup semi-final. They have already disposed of FAI Junior Cup champions Sheriff YC in the previous round and will be hopeful of progressing further in the competition. The tie will take place on Saturday 20th August in the UCD Bowl at 7pm, and in the event of a replay being needed it will take place on Tuesday 23rd August in Pearse Stadium at 6.30pm.

Injured: Tomas Boyle (neck), Brian Shortall (hamstring), Adam Harney (groin), and Samir Belhout (groin)
