Entering The History Books - Dave McMillan

Dave McMillan's goal in Derry last week didn't just win UCD the match...

By Declan Hughes

David joined UCD alongside his brother Evan in 2006. He spent awhile with the Leinster Senior League squads eventually working his way up through the A Championship side to the first team squad by 2008.

He made his original  debut coming on as a substitute at Turner’s Cross in an away game against Cork City in the 2008 season against in a Premier Division game . It was his only League appearance that year. In David’s first full season as a regular in the first team, David scored 12 goals as UCD clinched the First Division title in 2009.

An injury interrupted second campaign saw him notch a further 8 League goals that season in 23 appearances   He then moved away to St. Patrick’s Athletic where he spent the 2011 season before emigrating briefly to Australia.

During the early part of this year he was in Australia for a few months, lining out for a team called  Olympic F.C. in the Brisbane Premier League before returning to Ireland and also the club this past summer.

He returned to first team action in the 1-0 away defeat to Bohemians back in July and re-opened his UCD goalscoring account with the first goal in the 2-1 win over Shelbourne in Tolka Park in August.

Since then he has notched up a total of 5 League goals in his 10 League games to date in 2012, averaging one every other game but in the process bringing his UCD career total to 25 making him joint 10th on the clubs all time goalscoring list.

His 25th goal came in the recent 2-1 away win over Derry City at the Brandywell our first win away to The Candystripes since 2007.
