Match Preview: UCD AFC vs Cabinteely FC

Kick Off: 7.45pm, Friday 11th March, UCD BowlUCD vs Cabinteely

After the disappointment of last week's defeat against Limerick FC, Collie O'Neill and his side will be looking to kick start our season on Friday night at home to Cabinteely FC.

Last week against Limerick we took a first half lead after Maxi Kouogun headed home a Gary O'Neill free kick. The lead was short lived however, as Brian Shortall was dismissed for an off the ball incident before Limerick took control of the game and ran out comfortable 4-1 winners, thanks to two goals from new signing Aaron Greene and further goals from Shane Tracey and former UCD player Chris Mulhall. Speaking ahead of Friday's game Collie is keen to move on and bounce back with a victory on Friday night.

"It's never easy going to the league favourites on the opening night in front of a big crowd, however we didn't make it easy for ourselves. Maxi scored a great header to put us in the lead, however once we went down to 10 men it was always going to be difficult. It's important we move on now and get back to winning ways against Cabinteely."

There was a boost for Collie and his side during the week as we were in Leinster Senior Cup action against Crumlin United. The strength of the LSL and the other top amateur leagues was seen last year as a number of League of Ireland sides were knocked out of the cups by the country's top amateur sides. Goals from Jack Watson, Georgie Kelly and new signing Kieran "Marty" Waters (getting his first goal for the club) handing us a 3-2 victory and seeing us advance to the quarter final of the competition.

"Tuesday night's 3-2 victory against Crumlin in the Leinster Senior Cup was another good run out, and it is always great to progress in the cups. We are into the quarter final now so who knows! Also, with three different players getting on the scoresheet hopefully it will give them a bit of a confidence boost going into Friday's game."

Despite the positives from Tuesday night, Collie knows his side will have to improve from last week if we are going to start moving up the league.

"We will have to improve on Friday and not make any silly mistakes if we are going to come out on top. It is important that we stick to our game plan and be patient and make sure we take our chances when we get them."

On the injury front, Jason Byrne remains out as he continues his recovery from a calf injury, while Daire O'Connor is also out with an ankle injury. Both players are hopeful of returning in the coming weeks. While Brian Shortall will be suspended for the game after being sent off in last weeks game against Limerick FC

Injured: Jason Byrne (calf), Daire O'Connor (ankle)
Doubtful: None
Suspended: Brian Shortall
