Four named in PFAI Team of the Year!

After a tremendous season so far, Georgie Kelly has this week been nominated for the PFAI First Division Player of Year! PFAI Team of The Year

Georgie has scored 14 league goals so far this season, and is just a single goal behind Ciaran Kilduff and Willie Doyle's record of 15 in a single league season. With the final game of the season next weekend against Athlone Town Georgie will be hoping to find the back of the net and equal the record! His goalscoring exploits have also led to him being named upfront in the PFAI First Division Team of the Year.

Three other players have also been included in the team of the year, with Niall Corbet, Evan Osam and Greg Sloggett all being named in the team, bringing the total UCD contingent to four. Champion's Waterford FC have also had four named in the team, with Longford Town, Cobh Ramblers and Cabinteely FC all having one named.

Niall Corbet has once again had a brilliant season this year, and he has firmly established himself as one of the best League of Ireland goalkeepers across both divisions. A number of exceptional performances and world class saves have helped us to some vital victories and results this season. Two of his most memorable games however ended in defeat on penalties however as in both the EA Sports Cup and the Leinster Senior Cup against Dundalk FC he kept them at bay for long periods of the game with save after save which ultimately sent both games to penalties after finishing 1-1 after extra time.

In his first season with the club, Evan Osam has made the left back spot his own this year and has also claimed that spot in the team of the year. Both Evan and the club will be hoping for many successful seasons to come as he has recently taken up a scholarship with the club to complete his Physiotherapy degree. No doubt he will become an integral part of our Universities sides over the coming year.

Greg Sloggett has also been named in the side after having an extremely successful season. After struggling for long periods with injury after joining the club, since he regained full fitness last season he has really went from strength to strength. He stepped up to the mark this season taking the captains armband and showed great leadership during Gary O'Neill's absence through injury. His performances both in the league and for our Universities sides also led to him receiving a call up to the Irish College's and Universities side for the World University Games in Taipei.

Well done to all!
